A phenomenon that many hospice nurses can't explain. A phenomenon known only as 'the rally.' This doesn't only occur in humans as it occurs in other species as well. Especially in cats and dogs.
To those who are unaware. It is when a person or a critter suddenly has a massive boost in energy. It is almost as if they were young again and if sick, almost as if said sickness didn't exist. It can be described as a sort of 'packing for a long trip' energy. They will do things as they would normally or perhaps things as they did during their more youthful days. They would take in full meals and drink plenty of fluids. Such 'the rally' wears off, this is when the person or critter passes away.
This is something that is truly fascinating for me while also something I find disturbing or unsettling, all while being saddening.

My ex-wife's grandmother went through this phase. She was very slow when it came to walking and doing things. One day she had a boost of energy, walking faster, doing things faster, smiled and talked a lot. A couple days later, she was gone.
