So I just came across some random video where this white guy goes to see North Korea from the Chinese side of the border. Basically: I skipped to the end because I don’t feel like watching through the whole thing, but near the end of the video he goes to a Chinese war museum. I’m not the smartest person in the world, but I’m pretty sure being an American citizen in an authoritarian country, and joking about how their propaganda museum is fake, out loud, in public, recording yourself doing it, and then uploading it to the internet is uh… not smart? I’m not saying I disagree with him, I’m just saying, that’s impressively stupid. You know what? I take that back. Maybe I am the smartest person in the world.

Like there are multiple layers to the stupid:
1. First off, being an American citizen in China is a little bit stupid. It’s not completely unjustified. There are valid reasons to go there, I’m not knocking it, but it is a bit more dangerous than going to some other places by virtue of being an American adversary.
2. Holding anti communist views in a communist country when you’re not even a citizen of that country is… probably not smart.
3. Opposing the government out loud in public in an authoritarian country is generally pretty dumb.
4. Doing it right at the border with an even more authoritarian country at a war museum is pretty dumb.
5. Uploading it to the internet.
Tbh, I don’t think I’d even get away with that in a democracy. If I went into some Pearl Harbor museum or something and called it fake in America with all our free speech, I’m pretty sure I’d get cancelled by some veterans or something. Like I’m not saying the opinion that American guy has about China is wrong, I’m just saying… 🫠

My theory is he’s probably a Chinese agent if he actually got away with that and this is like some reverse psychology Chinese psyop to make westerners think they can get away with saying whatever they want in China.

You can criticize the government. You just can't threaten it or organize people against it. Hell, Chinese people whine about the government all the time. It's when you protest or organize that they mind.

So you admit he did this all publicly in China without being punished for his speech, and then you follow up by admitting this would not be allowed in America at a war museum.
