Japan is an island. 60% of their food is imported and they have no oil. You could probably kill everybody in Japan by just doing a naval blockade for a year or two.

Two nuclear bombs is horrible enough, but a lengthy starvation campaign of millions ?That's a PR disaster. Japan wouldn't have starved as easily as you think
