Actually, it is from Old Gaelic. There was a drunken Irishman who always got into fights at work. His nickname became O'Fights. But the boss noticed that, despite his fights, he always got the most work done, so where he worked became known as O'Fight's Place, and then simply O'Fights, which, over time, became Office.
