The end user should never ever have to look at github. If you point your end users to your github you are a lazy developer.
To use your analogy, what if I bought a house, showed up to the lot and found piles of wood and bricks with a sign that said "everything's here just compile your new house lol."

It's very rare that I see someone pointing to their GitHub expecting the user to compile it themselves. GitHub repos have a "releases" page where devs can post already compiled builds that you download like you would any other program. Why waste time finding an external file host when you're already using GitHub?

And it's not the silver bullet for internet security anyway. I seem to remember some python stuff causing hell last year because some bad actors were putting it on there.
