Breaking news today is the ongoing trial of Hassan Sentamu (a good old fashioned British name) who, after breaking up with his girlfriend, arranged an item swap: his belongings for her friend's teddy bear.
As it turned out, on the day of the swap he didn't bring the teddy bear - he bought a kitchen knife.
Well his ex wasn't too happy that he couldn't even swap a teddy bear without fucking it up and she didn't return his shit.
Now here's the interesting part. Hassan says that, because of his autism, he experienced an overwhelming rage at the "disrespect". He chased her down, stabbed her 7 times and left her to die.
He claims to the judge that he experienced a loss of control due to his autism, and that he is not responsible for his actions. He claims that he had a lawful reason for carrying the kitchen knife, and that he should be considered for a lesser sentence.
Personally, I think that he's fucked himself even worse. If he was found guilty of murder, he'd be locked away for 15 years and kept on a licence after that. But now, he's going to be locked up in a mental hospital for the rest of his life.
The takeaway question: Are autistics dangerous? Should they be monitored and controlled, for the safety of the communities in which they live? Have your say; vote in the poll.
