Its actually based off of a play-mode of WoW, but its evolved into its own unique game. Its also totally free forever, the only thing you can buy with real money is 'skins' for champs (your player) and the skins don't effect game-play at all.

Complete bullshit, it's based off DoTA aka Defense of the Ancients a mod for Warcraft III.

No it was a mod, you had to download it from a 3rd party you couldn't just dick around in the world editor and change settings to get it to work like a custom game.
