I don't think you're legally blind. It just means that your left eye is a lot weaker than your right, and you're depending on your right eye to see more, when you're not wearing contacts/glasses.

I can't read things far away properly with my right eye (I can make out shapes and guess though), or even up close with the left eye for longer than a few seconds before it becomes unreadable. I closed my ight eye typing this and the monitor is completely blurred, amd ot#s 28cm away.

Hmm, your prescription isn't too far off that of normal (although with a wide variation between eyes) reading glasses, but it sounds like there is more going on for you. It's difficult to tell from a prescription alone. Being "legally blind" is usually associated with distance viewing problems when making judgments from a distance (of 20 feet, or about 6 meters) becomes extremely difficult or impossible.

I barely even look out of it. It's like a slightly extended peripheral on the right side, and it fucking duplicates things if I force myself to use both of them.

As you ignore input from that eye more and more, it may become worse with age. :( Have you had a thorough eye exam (more than just a vision test for glasses or contacts) any time recently?

I'm not sure. Once a year I get called in for something because of my contact lense T&Cs, and I had a vision test I think (I got some new glasses from it). I'm not sure when my last thorough eye exam was.
I need to get a HC2 before I can have another eye test just on the fly anyway, otherwise I'll have to pay money for it and I have none.

Hmmm, you should probably mention that you have problems fusing images (the double vision or duplicating things you mentioned when you focus with both eyes) the next time you are in. The problem may even be with your eye muscles rather than your eyes.

Yes, I meant if he continues ignoring that eye altogether it could get worse. A corrective prescription usually seeks to remedy any misalignment to allow you focus and see with both eyes.

I had surgery on it when I was young (like 7 or 9? Sometime around 1998-2000 anyway), and I remember having to wear a patch over my good eye when I was around the same age.
