Topic: The person who manages a local transgender clinic is freaking out.

La Reina Catalina !j0siCathyI started this discussion 1 year ago #121,759

Normally she tends to be very incompetent when it comes to the day-to-day operations and management of a healthcare clinic despite her ego proclaiming her to be the best. Even going as far to say that she single-handily wrote the charter for transgender healthcare for a local insurance company.

According to one of her staff members, and medical personal, a cis woman who tends to understand the trans struggle better than the trans woman in charge herself, has also accused her of holding some racist notions and ideals toward people of color.

She is starting to think a pharmacist technician mispronouncing her name is a sign of a culture shift toward discrimination against trans people. Despite the fact that she lives in a region with a pretty big LGBT culture in a blue state. She also noticed that Walmart changed their medical option on their forms to say "sex" (as in 'assigned sex at birth'). If true, then this is a small matter of concern, but come on, it's fucking Walmart. It should come as no surprise they'd side with this twisted version of conservatism that Trump created.

Besides, the option you check for this would be the option that is reflected upon your legal birth certificate, and I'd be surprised if she hasn't went through the process of changing that over yet. She very clearly could've marked "F" for that option.

And if she thinks Walmart is being used for scouting out trans individuals. She should be more afraid of Trump, his administration, and the MAGA retarded army using systems and measures already put into place. Court orders for name and gender changes have to be published publicly. Stupid, sure, but that's how it is. Anyone could use this knowledge to gather up the intel. Plus police and feds could always bully medical facilities to release personal records over to law enforcement. This also applies for places of employment too.

I swear, this woman is way too stupid to be running a health and wellness clinic, but she's good at finding homeless trans people new homes and furniture to decorate said homes. I'll give her that.

I really wish that cis staff member was running things. She knows what's up and how to truly deal with the insurance companies.

Actual biological sex does sometimes have real medical implications. Filing forms to change the letter M to F (or vice versa) on a piece of paper from the state does not necessarily change this.

Yeah, it's an actual problem that there's no standard way to give this information to medical providers or dispensaries without having them print your records with inaccurate identity information. They do need to know your biological sex at birth, it can be vitally important. But they also should upgrade from their 1960s COBOL systems that can't handle modern PII.

Also Catherine has never even discussed any of this shit with this person she's bitching about lol

There is no obligation for the patient to mark the option that corresponds with 'assigned at birth.' There is never any clarification concerning what 'sex' entails on the form. So, a patient might mark it according to birth certificate and another might go assigned sex at birth. Most probably go by birth certificate though.

You don't understand the issue. You should want these forms to be unambiguous and clear about the purpose of collecting the information and how it will be used. You should want your medical providers to have a full picture but without screwing up your insurance paperwork and medical records by recording your identity inaccurately. You shouldn't be wondering "Are they asking how the government identifies me or how many penis was I born with?" Go ahead and put whatever you want, in protest, but be aware of the risks. Don't act like it's not a problem just because you're happy when you see an F on a piece of paper.

Ideally you would be able to report your biological sex at birth to medical providers and chemists on a separate part of the form that hasn't anything to do with the identity information on your ID card or birth certificate. They really do need to know, but currently it is not properly handled.

There is a lot more to it to that and it would depend heavily on the person.

The clinic I go to caters to mental health, hair removal (laser and electrolysis), IPL, food and personal care products (free), finding housing, and legal needs.

The legal needs encompass things like legal name and gender change procedures, and navigating insurance letters to get these services approved. This goes for procedures as well.

Some people may require facial feminization surgery and the bottom surgery. There is also top surgery in the case the patient is female-to-male.
