They all live in bubbles and have never spent time amongst the working class, so when they look around and talk to the people that they consider people (proles are invisible to them except to mock like this interaction), they hear everyone saying they'll vote for the demon and think it's set in stone.
When Trump and Elon kick them off the fed's gravy train they will have to create the wealth they want to consume, and that will be a very rude awakening for their lot.

No, I think they understand what working people are going through, and used that to win.
Democrats could have paid attention, but instead when consumer sentiment polls showed that people were doing badly in this economy they kept pushing the message that all these people were too stupid to understand how great the economy was.
Trump and Elon are the ones winning when the stock market goes up, but they know most aren't and won't push a message that invalidates the struggle. Instead they offered solutions to these problems.
As a child, Elon had to rotate with his sibling and parent between sleeping on the bed, the couch and the carpet. Elon founded Zip2 with $2,000 that he had to borrow and made a huge success of it.
