Today's flag is: LimaAs a letter of the alphabet, that is the letter L. As a message, it means "stop immediately". Other sources use these wordings: "stop your vessel instantly, I have something important to communicate" and "You should stop your vessel instantly".

When the flag is presented with numeric flags, then the meaning is a geographical latitude. Four digits are presented: the first 2 denote degrees and the last 2 denote minutes.
