it does not respect at least two important principles of freedom in my observation: a system of checks and balances to prevent too much concentration of power, and separation of church and state.
also as we have seen in this instance, rule of law, the idea that no one is above the law (that's been long-standing issue certainly -- but now it's no longer seen as important by the general public)
