He reportedly said he wanted generals like Hitler had. Which is pretty dumb since those generals tanked the 'thousand year Reich' in less than 12 years, but it's hardly "praising Hitler".

It was "generals like Hitler had" but I really don't get it because Hitler didn't like the generals Hitler had. Towards the end especially he regretted that he hadn't decimated the officer class like Stalin did.
Hitler's generals all pretty much came over from the pre-1933 army (the Luftwaffe was much more NSDAP-influenced though as it was pretty much built from scratch by Goering) so they weren't anything special either.

It will require all of us working together to extract the hateful poison of anti-Semitism from our world. This was an anti-Semitic attack at its worst You wouldn't think this would be possible in this day and age, but we just don't seem to learn from the past". And then Reichsminister of the Interior Frick announced hate crime charges would be filed and those responsible for the unrest and violence were to be interned in Flossenburg concentration camp.
