Word on the street is Obama has lost the Jewish vote, so now I guess we can look forward to Perry's campaign trying to paint him as some sort of protector of the Jewish people in the upcoming months. This should be amusing.

America is a puppet of Zionist Israel, republicans are allowed to be open about it though since there voter base feels the same way but for different reasons.

If perry is smart he'll know he already has the jews in his pocket. If anything he's pandering to the christian right and their belief that the jews returning to the homeland hearlds the second coming or whatever that bullshit is.

Perry has nothing to prove to most people on the right, actually. He should be pandering to the centrists, he has the right on lockdown. He needs more votes from the middle left.

There are a lot of Jews that are pretty staunch democrats but could probably be flipped because of support for Israel, as Bob Turner's election in New York has recently demonstrated. I think Perry is playing the game well here by trying to pick up some dissatisfied democrat votes.

(But, yeah, a little more pandering to the middle-left down the road wouldn't hurt either.)

That's a pretty weak way to pander for votes, yes some people give a shit about Israel, but a lot more care about more important things, like the economy etc. Speaking of which, Republicans haven't had a single strong stance on the economy, not one decent proposal, they are fucking themselves. I reckon its because Obama took all the half-decent ideas, yet they can't support that shit, obviously if they had something better they would have brought it up by now. The Republicans are starting to look weaker and weaker, softening them up by forcing them to stand openly for the rich, but not the elderly is genius, I firmly believe Obama will win the next election and if Democrats can get control of congress at the same time maybe something can finally get done, for better or worse. I think many of us would just be happy to see Washington actually do something (besides wars), its been far too damn long. If you look at the recent history of Republicans you'll see nothing but wars, drug wars, Iraq, Afghanistan... Its about time to fight a war here at home for once, a war for the people, for jobs, for our economy, for better education. We really can make things better, but we just don't. Fucking politics lol.

Ok, this is NOT about pandering to Jews. It's about a craY Christian belief that the second coming requires the Jews to have control of the holy land.

This is seriously disturbing. He believes that the bible is literal. He is a very dangerous man. He can not allowed to be president.

You should be afraid. This man isn't a rational person. He doesn't believe in global warming because god made the world and god made man to rise up above the animals and this world is temporary, anyway.

You are really naive if you think these big guys are actually serious about their religious beliefs. He has been ramping up the pro-Israel statements lately to win the Jewish vote.

You are right that the idea that the Second Coming of Christ requires a Jewish state controlling Jerusalem is crazy, and illogical. The entire Bible is not literal, and I doubt Perry believes it is. Rather, Perry believes his allegorical interpretation of the book of Revelations is correct. He should not be president - not because he holds these beliefs, but because he believes it is right to use the coercive force of the state to compel people to act according to his beliefs.

Everyone believes this world is temporary, bud.

He claims to believe. His statements and actions echo those beliefs. You really need to stay in reality when discussing serious shit, cause you are only going to have people start ignoring you.

By saying he has a clear directive as a Christian to help Israel supports what I said. He can support Israel and not reference a crazy interpretation of prophecies and bible verses.

The world is temporary, but it isn't going to end in our lifetime. Many Christians believe it will. I meant temporary for him, I'm sorry I wasnt more clear. I would guess perry believes it will end in his lifetime since he believes in this crazy shit. He believes in creationism (and thought it was being taught in Texas schools cause he appointed people to the school board who were trying to push creationism into schools under the guise of intelligent design, a belief that bases it's entire premise off of a flawed understanding of biology and evolution. There isn't even any evidence for ID given by christians. It's such a bunch of baloney. Old, rotten baloney. God isn't real, so it's not surprising.)

@previous (cccuuunnttt !nIGga.SL0w)
Yea. Many of these same people probably still believe Obama was born in Kenya. Sometimes, people have a belief that really shows anything they say must be circumspect as they are unable to reach rational conclusions. They're judgment cannot be trusted. Perry's very callous nature is evidence of that. Sure, it's very Texan, but he isn't just talking the talk. He is legit, which is the only reason he has gotten anywhere. Being a confident, tall, attractive (I guess), white male can get you to places in our society.

Still, these beliefs are dying. The Internet is possibly the savior of the human race, at least until after the singularity when it kills us all.

You make yet another post about party politics. I tell you that you have been conned into thinking party actually matters. You get butthurt. Again.

The only thing that matters is what the individual candidate/representative believes and does, which you completely ignore in favor of party politics, which ironically benefits and strengthens the parties.

Yeah, and Obama claimed he was going to withdraw the troops. It's called lying. Lots of people do it, especially politicians.

LOL. No, they don't. He claims to be a follower of Christ, and a member of the Christian religion. Yet he is pro-war, pro-moral law, and pro-death penalty. These are all in direct opposition to the values practiced and preached by Jesus and the Apostles. His statements and actions echo the fact that he uses Christianity to gain popularity.

> You really need to stay in reality when discussing serious shit, cause you are only going to have people start ignoring you.

Sorry, but disagreeing with you and supporting myself with compelling arguments ≠ leaving reality.

You don't know that. An asteroid could hit the planet next year. Who knows? I don't, but I don't claim to know.

> Many Christians believe it will. I meant temporary for him, I'm sorry I wasnt more clear. I would guess perry believes it will end in his lifetime since he believes in this crazy shit.

Some believe it will; many believe it could. There is a difference.

Honestly, I don't get the whole "renaming creationism as Intelligent Design" thing. Are Americans dumb enough to think renaming something changes it? I seriously don't get it. ID belongs in social science lol not real science.

The majority of voters are idiots who don't pay attention to what candidates actually believe and do, and just vote to which party best reflects their values in press statements, even though the members of that party don't actually do anything to see those values happen.

Party does not matter - that some people think it does does not change this.

There is nothing to indicate perry is lying. His beliefs that you say dont work with your specific form of Christianity (it's all very, very different cause it's all made to fit to the individual prejudice of the people who make up the majority of believers in geographical region. It's made up by man, remember? The Christian god doesn't actually exist) fit right in with many of the Christian in the US.

ID is a way to try and weasel creationism in public schools. Most Americans aren't fooled, but to Christians it seems very clever. They think rebranding it to look secular can get it into publc schools.

It hasn't succeeded because it has no evidence. These people spend millions, and still can't produce ANY evidence.

I guess it wasn't as successful as renaming "delusion" to "faith"

It comes down again to no evidence to support the religious claims. Gosh, seems like that is brought up often with religion. Its funny. you wpuld think that after 2000 years there would be some evidence.

I think you're trying to say this is a bad thing, but it's actually true. Christianity doesn't give rules; it gives principles: the foremost of these being "Love God and love people". The outworking of these principles will differ in different cultures at different times.

However, some acts universally contradict these principles: offensive wars, and violating people's will, for example: both of which Rick Perry advocates.

Well, I'm sure he would disagree with you.

Whn you base your morality off of make-believe bullshit, it really doesn't matter what you believe. You don't need to justify seriously. As long as you tell yourself god is cool with it, it's okz God has been shown to be a reflection of the self, so its a very easy thing for humans to do.

That does demonstrate that you aren't a monster, though. It's a good thing sometimes when you feel compassion for other humans. If more christians felt that way, people like me wouldnt really care as much about religion.

This post shows an improper understanding of Christianity morality. Paul writes that "All things are permissible" but cautions "Not all things are beneficial". Thus immorality to the Christian is that which negatively affects yourself and others. Your argument isn't as hard-hitting when one considers morality in this light, as opposed to "This is evil and sinful because God said so" a concept absent from Christianity (not to say that this view is not popular amongst the uneducated laity).

> That does demonstrate that you aren't a monster, though. It's a good thing sometimes when you feel compassion for other humans. If more christians felt that way, people like me wouldnt really care as much about religion.

Of course I'm not a monster lol. You're the one constantly crying out for people's blood in other threads haha (hopefully you're trolling). The general mass of uneducated Christians do have some weird hook ups about particular issues and I am doing my best to correct it in my church! Fortunately, I have help: an acoustic guitarist, who is a cancer researcher, is heavily involved in libertarian associations and institutions, and the main drummer LOVES Ron Paul and is also libertarian, so they support me in my quest to educate people about love and liberty. Unfortunately, some of the church leadership is anti-gay, and we rehabilitate sex-slave girls in Asia, so there is a bit of anti-pedo stuff there too - but on the whole, I feel really excited. There seems to be a shift towards love, acceptance, peace, and liberty lately and I really welcome it. Not just politically but theologically. I debate my lecturers all the time and have changed their views on several key matters (and my classmates, but that's easy cause they don't know what they believe and they're mainly sheeple lol).

This is why I hate humanism. Not the parts about respecting one another leading to a better society--you know, they parts they stole from Christianity, but the part about humanity needing to save itself. They act is if we're supposed to make sacrifices in our lives for future generations. That's bullshit. I see no reason to believe humanity can survive into perpetuity, and it's oppressive to strive for such a thing.

Hey sluggy, the sun is going to burn out someday. We're virtually certain of that. Humanity isn't doing anything to prevent the end of the world. Isn't that wrong? Shouldn't we be doing something to stop it? What about the future generations that will be burned and blown to pieces when the sun finally blows?

I hate how Humanism expects us to care about people who don't even exist yet.

sluggy replied with this 15 years ago, 18 minutes later, 13 hours after the original post[^] [v] #218,721

@previous (O)
Yes. Human beings will almost certainly become extinct one day. We have many ancestors who have gone extinct. We don't know that our ancestors will not survive beyond our own solar system. Still, the earth will likely be here for quite a while.

Now, you have issues making sacrifices to help future generations? Guess what; they're just as helpful to us, and those future generations are our offspring.

You are helping your children and your children's children. The greatest advantage humans have is our ability to adapt, so I think humans will be surviving for quite some time regardless or what happens on earth (global nuclear war, disease, cataclysmic disasters).

I think its only common sense to ensure success of future generations if you have children. I think it's just the decent thing to do for the rest of us. You just sound like a prick.

lolmorality. You're defining "the right thing to do" as taking away from people who are actually alive today (and mostly unrelated to you) to protect your own DNA into perpetuity. Yeah sure, no personal self-interest there. L-oh-fucking-L.

What about people who choose not to have kids? Why should any single one of them have to make sacrifices to help these imaginary future children? That's downright selfish and wrong. They're already helping you by not having any fucking kids. Do parents even bother to thank them? No, most people with kids fucking discriminate against them.
