I’ve been reading about the House of Lords. They seem useless and mostly ceremonial. Why does Labour have such a hard-on for getting rid of it and removing hereditary peers? Why don’t they show the same contempt for the royals? It’s pretty much the same thing.

Without the house of Lords, the house of commons would have nobody to hold them to account. Labour are megalomaniacs and want all the power without accountability (just like every other left wing dictator that's ever been).

They are absolutely not ceremonial lol. They have ceremonies, but have an active part in the legislation process. Any bill that passes the Commons must also pass the Lords, or else it is sent back.

as I understand the origins of left/right distinctions from the history of France, right is for the maintenance of inherited wealth elite (the aristocracy) while left is for the more ordinary in society. whatever the fuck those murderous dictator assholes are is something altogether different
