Topic: Today I learned: The Children’s Show “Arthur” Used to Reference Adult Animated Programming

I have no idea why this feels so weird to me. I know modern day animated programs targeted toward younger audiences often reference or are connected to more adult-oriented programming. See the Gravity Falls/Rick & Morty connection(s). But seeing Arthur, an educational children’s show on PBS make reference to both South Park and Beavis & Butt-Head is astounding to me.

I used to watch a show called Mister Wizard. And it was an educational program where a gruff man did science experiments and explained how they worked. Kids would ask him questions, and if they were stupid questions, Mister Wizard would openly treat them like they were retarded

That's why Bill Nye and Beakman's World were superior (they filtered the dumb kids a bit better).

There was also a US man Julius Sumner Miller who really got around, doing clips for shows around the world.
wiki says
in 1959, Miller began hosting his educational program, Why Is It So?, on KNXT (now KCBS-TV) Channel 2 in Los Angeles. From 1962 to 1964, he was Disney's "Professor Wonderful" on new introductions, filmed at Disneyland, to the syndicated reruns of The Mickey Mouse Club. He also starred in the Disney series Great Moments in Science and Science and its Magic. During the same period, he appeared on a semi-regular basis, performing physics experiments, on Steve Allen's late night TV show in Hollywood, syndicated by Group W. Eventually, he also had his own TV shows in Australia, Canada, Norway, and New Zealand.
