In our senior leadership WhatsApp group we were discussing a client. When it turned out that the clients surname was "Cowen" I said "He gonna want it cheap"

No. I'm a big fan of just being right all of the time and being quietly smug. Experience will soon teach her that with Jews you lose (when it comes to selling shit to them)

I mean if there is a stereotype about people with the surname Cowen being cheap jews and everyone knows it, I wouldn't really consider that hiding.

That's extremely lucky. How often does your company hire without a degree? A lighting design BA or equivalent is normally a minimum requirement for decent roles pretty much anywhere in the UK unless you've got a good amount of industry experience already.
I have some experience as an intern doing lighting shit in Scotland when I was studying in GB. Everyone wanted a degree or buttload of experience even if the job listing didn't say that.

Well I'm 46 and have a good reputation (just not online) and have a lot of experience. Whe you get into your 40s employers don't really care about pieces of paper you achieved or didn't achieve 20 years ago.

Nice I didn't know that. Experience really is the most important thing. Even if you went back to school and got your degree it wouldn't benefit you by now. It's bullshit a degree is becoming something you MUST have. Jobs in the US and UK more and more ask for you to have a degree in ANYTHING before you can even apply.

To be fair that's hardly a new development in most "good" fields. I'm already at a stage in my career where I'm rarely asked about my degree anymore, but hiring managers will still insist it's a box that needs to be ticked.
It is retarded when employers demand a degree in any subject, even though it may be completely unrelated to the position. Is a candidate with a degree in "Communications" or Art History really that better equipped for a data entry or office assistant position?

No I thought you might take offence at my racism. I just don't want to be rude to you, we've known each other for many years and I kind of feel we have a kinship. Like brothers, not brothers that get along but brothers that are born of the same mother, the mother being minichan. I mean you no ill will or misfortune even though I have done in the past. I would hope you forgive me and look upon me with kindness.
