Topic: I do like Tim Walz's idea of befriending school shooters

Meta !Sober//iZs started this discussion 1 year ago #120,997

Maybe if they had a nice, older friend to act as a father figure they wouldn't shoot the schools up so much.

If they didn't have guns it'd also help

kids love the make-believe tactical assault style hero rifles, so what are you going to do -- boys will be boys

DreamWorks, no offense but if anyone here were to become a school shooter it would be you.

What I wonder is, school shootings were basically unheard of until about 25 years ago. Guns existed 25 years ago. In fact, it was actually easier to get them back then.

So why has this problem only recently come into existence??

If cops were the only ones that had guns then these kids would end up living in an authoritarian state deprived of the few rights they've been fortunate enough to inherit now.

Plenty of countries do not have citizens owning guns like the US, and they are hardly "authoritarian states deprived of the few rights they've been fortunate enough to inherit now."

Alright, then could you please explain how, say, England is an authoritarian nightmare? France? Spain? Italy? Canada? I've been to all those places, and they are perfectly free and happy.

England has a hereditary class structure that officially states some are born higher than others. The upper house of their legislature isn't voted on at all.

Not to say that it looks like a dystopian movie on the streets, but authoritarianism is often banal. Anyone who seriously challenged the system would be imprisoned or killed.

I would not call that an "authoritarian state".

No but they're appointed there by people who are voted in.

Of course it is. New lords are appointed by outgoing prime ministers.

The monarch can and does appoint new lords, and the theocratic beaurocracy known as the Church of England appoints some lords in a process that doesn't even pretend to be democratic. Some peerages are hereditary as well.

Any form of monarchy is authoritarian. If the brits were strapped the country would be a republic, but violence is monopolized by the crown.

> The monarch can and does appoint new lords

Not against the will of Parliament he doesn't. The status quo is a delicate balancing act due to the previous bloody civil war fought over the matter.

> theocratic beaurocracy known as the Church of England

AKA the official state church, forever tied to the very fabric of the nation itself.

> If the brits were strapped

Guns are licenced, not banned.

I killed a CIA nigger by running him over on 9/9/99. I was being followed by agents and freaked out. It's okay to run-over space aliens.
