These are the corpses of Catholic saints that apparently do not decompose like normal humans. I was interested, so I did some research. I was disappointed, but not surprised, to find out that most of them are skeletons underneath wax effigies, and the others are clearly mummified.

Occasionally humans get (lucky I guess?? I dunno, it's still a dead corpse) better treatment in death and they don't go straight to worm food. You can bet if we all got mausoleums there would be a lot more bodies that aren't 100% skeletons.

It's not even corpse wax. It's just a wax effigy intentionally sculpted by a human artist. I am talking about the ones who look still living, which is most of them. The ones that are not effigies over bones are obviously mummified like, say, an Egyptian mummy.
