I played that game over the Labor Day weekend at a house that my relatives rented for a gathering and it was so much fun. I am determined to beat the game one day but I don’t own an NES. Can you play it online for free?????

Yes, google in browser emulators, they exist. And there is no "30 lives edition", you put in a code at the title screen that gives you 30 lives

It's possible it was a rom hack on a flash cart or a bootleg, it was pretty common back in the day for bootleg carts to make minor changes to the games, including the number of lives you start with. Though that was primarily a Famicom thing, less so NES
