Use wubi installer, there is also another installer for other distros, but I can't recall what it is atm. If its all or none, then no, linux is a fucking headache.

You should install a bare-bones distro with X and a tiling WM. Fuck the desktop metaphor.

If you're doing any kind of actual production work you've got multiple apps open at the same time and it quickly makes a huge mess of things. Now you have to spend a fuckload of time flipping though windows to find the right one.
Tabs are the right idea. Windows are not. I love how KDE is trying to make it so you can force all windows from one application to collect together in a single tabbed window like Firefox. But of course, KDE's shit never works 100%.

Huh, I usually use the taskbar in this capacity, but I can see where that would be a problem if the same application spawned a bunch of different windows that you couldn't group together.
