I think that may be true sometimes. But many people use video games to stim and they aren't enriching themselves
The only difference is that "games" are interactive media.
A lot of modern video games are just stories that have alternate endings depending on your choices, they aren't devoid of narratives like the very first video games.

I love that you recognized it! Have you played it yet? It's pretty good. It's just as absurd as Master of Time, but they embrace and have fun with it instead of trying to make it serious.

No I don't really play romhacks that much! Might try that roguelike zelda thing at some point but I don't remember what it's called. Have you tried it?

If you're into retro games, you're missing out! There are a ton of fantastic hacks out there. There are a few I can think of that you may be referring to, there's a Star Fox themed Ocarina of Time hack and a new one called Ultimate Trial, neither of which I've played but plan to eventually. Then there's Ancient Dungeon which is a hack of the original Zelda on NES, I have played that one and it's pretty fun but once you finish it one time you've pretty much seen everything it has to offer, and I never felt compelled to revisit it. Though I think it's been updated since I played it, so maybe they've added new features.

I've been out of gaming for a while but I did try out Nintendo DS emulation this last week to pass some time while it was raining. It works surprisingly well with a mouse, and I'm curious if the experience would be good on a tablet or 'Windows 8 touchscreen laptops' too.
Never really got into hacks but I do remember the Zelda game where you'd collect pubees instead or rupees - that was good for some yuks when I was a lad.

DS emulation is great for games that rely mostly on either touch or button input. It can be a little annoying playing games that make heavy use of both, unless maybe you're playing on Android with a controller attachment, where you have all your buttons and easy access to the touch screen.
And yeah hacks have come a long way. As a kid I also enjoyed the crude humor of things like naked Link in Zelda 2 fighting with his "sword" but nowadays there are hacks that essentially overhaul the game into an entirely new game. Those are the only ones I tend to care about these days, aside from translations of games that never got English releases or the odd bug fix or quality of life hacks.

Steamdeck is perfect for this. It has a touchscreen, 2 touchpads, and motion controls (in case you want to dip your toes into 3DS, Wii or WiiU emulation)
