I never got that either. I would pile mushrooms and onions and the like on a bun before I'd ever touch that disgusting fake meat. Half the time I think it's so people can sound 'interesting' at the BBQ.

What Kook said. Vegans love the taste of meat but are opposed to consuming it for ethical reasons. Faux meat can somewhat satiate the cravings.

I've been around enough vegans, they can be insufferable. It's like listening to people that diagnose themselves with diseases and disorders off the internet - same vein of crazy. "Mike! Mike. Make SURE you keep my turkey burger off to the side. YES, I know it's not real turkey it's SOY! Pretty great right?! Tastes JUST like it though! Just like turkey but it's not! I just love it! You should try one. TRY ONE! You'll like it. I didn't know if I would like it either, but I tried it, and, I, did! Wouldn't you know it! It's not actually meat! It's great. Mike, it touched a regular patty. I told you not to let them touch."

Meat isn't shaped into a patty or a homogenized nugget by default. Why do people feel the need to shape the meat into thin cylinders? Oh right, it's a cooking style.
