Stonemasons couldn't exist without carpenters. Carpenters are the oldest, and holiest, of all the professions.

Carpenters couldn't exist without woodcutters. Woodcutters are truly the oldest profession, worthy of respect.

Woodcutters couldn't exist without tree planters. Tree planters are truly the oldest profession, worthy of respect.

Please, explain to all the forum how a carpenter can carpent without a woodcutter to cut his wood.

Giving a mother morale support isn't a real job.

Are you suggesting he carpents directly from the tree?

Anonymous C replied with this 1 year ago, 1 minute later, 8 hours after the original post[^] [v] #1,315,965

@previous (D)
Traditionally, that's how it's done.

Industrialization commodified lumber as a distinct product and diminished the artisanal touch.

One does not carve a tree directly into a table without cutting it down first.

Anonymous C replied with this 1 year ago, 3 minutes later, 8 hours after the original post[^] [v] #1,315,968

@previous (D)
The cutting it down happens naturally as a result of cutting the table out.

Lumber is a modern invention, carpenters worked with wood long before the exploitation of the forest and the conformity of wood products.

Trees have always been turned into planks

@previous (D)
Not in remotely the same way.

A carpenter sourcing flooring from an old growth tree would cut out rectangles but it was use-specific.

Most curved wood, like the hulls of watercraft were carved directly from the natural structure of the trunk to preserve strength and flexibility.

Anonymous D replied with this 1 year ago, 6 minutes later, 8 hours after the original post[^] [v] #1,315,980

@previous (C)

The woodcutter would cut the wood. But the carpenter would carpent it into its final form.

I think perhaps Anonymous C is trolling for lulz. Unless he truly thinks that people don't need to deliver babies and/or carpenters directly carve furniture from living trees like sculptures.

Stonemasonry depends on carpenters to fashion wood to buttress the stones, and to provide scaffolding, whilst the stones are being carved and placed.

true lol. I make a silly joke about the idiom "world's oldest profession" and use an ancient one, stonemasonry, as a comedic foil. Minichanners then engage in a debate not only on which profession is the oldest, but whether carpenters build things out of living trees lol. wtf

They obviously don't, they use wood which was previously cut by the woodcutter.

Now of course the woodcutter himself depends upon the blacksmith, or perhaps the knapper.
