I'm just depressed we can't pay in cash for everything and not have a cellphone - those days were gone 10 years ago.

The system knows what it looks like when people evade monitoring. No IOT in the house, Google play services stripped from the phone, bank accounts with abnormally high ATM withdraws.
The AI will flag you as subversive, and the cops will find any excuse to throw you into a labor camp where the public has decided SA is acceptable because of your crimes.
The NPCs will have their mundane behavior logged, and blend in with the crowd. They will live happy ignorant lives.

I’m pretty sure cash payment is still a thing though and you don’t really need a cell phone. Public libraries still exist for internet needs. Desktop computers are still a thing. The only reason why people have a smartphone nowadays is social media and you don’t really need that shit. Just tell the people they have to text message you if they want to keep in contact. If they were really someone worth keeping in your life, they’d go the extra mile.
