Some are fascinating, but so many American towns like this are so bleak and deserted. What the hell? It looks like after the zombie apocalypse. How could anyone liver here any not go crazy? Ref: it's Elk City, Oklahoma.

I mean, look at this abandoned warehouse. It's been closed so long, grass is overtaking the parking lot. How can anyone live in a city with so many abandoned warehouses and no jobs?

I don't know. You should go to Google Earth and look at all the dead streets and abandoned buildings here. It's sad really.

I've heard a compelling reasoning that the current economic incentives for land owners and developers is to let them remain without building homes, because the land itself can be likely resold for more than what they paid. To incentivize building, a town needs to make it less expensive tax or penalty wise to make homes than to sit on an unused property for loard knows how long.
