Americans have to recognize their role in this though. If we refused the consumer lifestyle it'd send them all scrambling. It's like that last mini-recession before covid where they blamed us for not spending enough (a riot; loved that!).

That would never work.
Capital creates a reserve army of labor to adapt to this, and will just replace anyone that stops participating. The scab gets promoted, the striker gets demoted, and everyone else learns that if they try to fight it they face the same fate.
If there was an unprecedented level of striking capital might have to scramble to increase that reserve army with more immigration, or by using offshore labor. Workers get a lifetime of punishment, and capital at worst sees a short period of declines in stock price.

Bah, maybe you're right. I can see why a lifetime on the streets unemployed and not buying anything isn't appealing, and doesn't do enough damage to the other side.
