Watched most of it, seems like the 'doing things' is kind of like getting a break in the prison yard to work out. I don't think showing 'the best' the country has to offer while parading the busses around has the effect they think it does.

These autocratic cults are fascinating. They change the nature of language, particularly formulaic language and phatic phrases. There’s also a string of rules, formalities, and so many aspects to abide - who has time to think? You spend all of your time remembering and perfecting social choreography. Note the communal activities like the flag demonstrations, dances, singing groups - it’s all a communist liturgy. Even NK emigres in ROK form song and dance groups because it’s such a function of their upbringing.
On the plus side they produce a great child’s orchestra for those who have suffered through middle school “performances” in the West.
