There's something called milk paint that is based on casein, the milk protein. If this becomes in widespread use again, I imagine casein could be sourced from genetically modified yeast, which have already been invented.

I'm assuming microplastics are the 'lead paint / leaded fuel' or 'asbestos' of our generation.
