Topic: mfw people call me after not talking for 8+ months

Anonymous A started this discussion 15 years ago #11,871

Image went missingGoddamn. Not much annoys me more than this, but maybe I'm just being asocial.

Anyone else sort of bothered by being contacted out of the blue from people you don't talk to anymore?

No one would do this to me.

Would you want them to, though? Or do you like just doing your own thing?

Only if it's someone I remember having bad history with.

This.
Then again, I haven't fallen out of contact with anyone because I've never really known anyone.

This is one of those things that never bothered me. If someone called me up after not speaking to me for 10 years, I'd treat him as if we last spoke yesterday.

Sorry to hear it guys. Can't say I know that feel. I wonder why I'm like this sometimes. Never been able to quite put my finger on it.

What if the person wanted to hang out with you though, Jump? I think I recall you mentioning social situations make you intensely nervous.

Just the suggestion of that made me panicky. I couldn't do it. I don't know if I could even invite them over. Would depend on who it is. I really don't want people to see me. I only even have my one friend over anymore. I can't really go out.

It sounds extreme and silly and really odd, I know, but it's too much. I have to go to a wedding in three weeks. I completely forgot about rehearsal dinners. I've considered breaking my ankle to get out of it. I can't risk something like that though. It sucks cause I'm the best man (childhood friend I've known since I was 5, so he felt obligated. I dont even really know any of his other friends anymore).

Yea; id make up an excuse if they wanted to get together almost certainly.

How do you deal with work?

Don't worry about sounding silly, because I sort of understand where you're coming from. I don't really like social situations that much either, and tend to avoid them if possible. I wasn't always like this, though.

Would you ever consider asking your roomate(s) to accompany you to the wedding so you don't feel so alone? If not, why? I do feel for you, though. I'd be dreading the wedding too. I don't like having to do the whole small talk thing with people I don't know well, and most of all, I hate that moment when there isn't much of anything to say anymore. Sometimes I do feel like I'm being judged on a shit ton of different things as well, which often leads to anxiety, and that is no fucking fun at all. I'm not trying to worry you though, so sorry if this conversation is having that effect.

Work isn't too bad. I'm by myself most the night. Waiting for the train in the morning is tough. I try to waste time walking around, but I'm at a 10 the entire time I'm standing on the platform. I feel like everyone is looking at me and thinking about how weird and creepy I am (I know that's paranoia, but even if I keep repeating that in my head, a whisper or laugh puts me right back in).

My housemates are going. Since I'm in the wedding party, I can't sit with them at dinner, but I do know one or the groomsman. He's really chill. We are friends, but I can't hang out with that group cause I get too anxious. They're all really cool people, and I don't know why but I've always felt that way around them. They're really inclusive and nice. It's how I know weed isn't responsible, cause I didn't smoke at all when I first met them.

Alone though, I'm good with him and his wife (two of the chillest people I've eve met).

What really worries me is if they do the traditional dances. I don't know if I can do it. The idea of being on the dance floor with everyone watching dancing with a beautiful stranger. I get sick thinking of it. I'm gonna be so drugged up. There's no other way.
