the android is a formidable opponent to the iPhone but I've never heard of anyone buying one for music

That's a paradigm problem, not a device problem. I use my blackberry for all my music, and even if iPods have more accessories, it doesn't make sense to go out and buy an iPod and carry 2 devices around when my blackberry works just fine. Android devices are even better.

Android devices are better but only if you know what your doing and can cope with the occasional glitch. If you scare easily, better stick with iPod.
