Not just lawyers - nurses, healthcare professionals, miners, construction workers, and those in the hospitality and food services industry also face challenges with heavy alcohol consumption.In the healthcare industry, about 15.3 percent of physicians struggle with alcohol abuse or dependence. Surgeons and those in the mining industry also have high rates of heavy drinking. In the construction field, 16.5 percent of workers reported heavy drinking in the prior month.
Hospitality and food services professionals, entertainers, artists, and individuals in management positions also struggle with heavy alcohol consumption. Real estate, finance, insurance, and educational professionals are not exempt either, with rates of heavy drinking ranging from 4.7 percent to 7.4 percent.
This is a pervasive issue of problem drinking across various industries.
