It contains so many species of animal and plant that most have not even been discovered or named yet. Did you know that many medicinal remedies were discovered in the Amazon? People say that every disease in the world could be cured by medicines in the Amazon that scientists do not know about.Yet every year it shrinks. Brazilians send tree poachers into the forest to chop trees and kill animals and aboriginal people who seek only to defend their homes. They take them away and turn them into wide grass fields for thousands of cows, which destroys the nutrients of the soil.
You can help to prevent this by writing to your respective government representative and asking them about how your country can pay more attention to Brazils (and others, but mostly Brazil) illegal operations, and to prevent products or meats produced through or by these operations from coming into your country. Or you could donate money to several reputable charities which aid the forest, such as the Rainforest Foundation, Cool Earth or Amazon Conservation Association.
