Topic: Never loan money to family, sounds bad and doesn't work

Anonymous A started this discussion 1 year ago #117,308

Most of the people who say that, are they not typically privileged in the sense that they never were faced with parents who really needed money? Or a little sister with a baby? It's such a arrogant thing to proclaim.

Just give money to help your fucking family. Only a real devil rat would give money to family expecting it back.

Only half true, maybe a optimistic rat with high expectations for the future of it's rat family, this rat would expect it back

I loaned my brother $2000 a few years ago after he promised to pay it back several weeks later.

I'm still waiting on that 2 grand, and he has come up with every excuse to delay paying me back.

I don't mind helping family, but when you promise you're going to pay it back, I'll hold your ass to it.

So if that makes me a rat, then so be it

I kind of see the point of this quote. If you want to give money to family, that's fine. But don't expect to get it back

They will be comfortable finding excuses why they can't give you back what they agreed when they agreed, more comfortable than if you were a company or bank.

Absolutely true, and trying to get the money back can cause strife in the family

Yeah like for example you take your nephew (father's side) to court because he failed to pay back a 10k loan. Nephew complains to aunt who falls out with you because it is a perceived lack of mercy on her boy. As a result your father is caught in an argument between his son and his sister, perhaps he takes his sisters side on the matter. But your own mother, the father's sister's sister-in-law, takes your side. Suddenly a household is ripped apart.
