I’d just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Open source can't into games. I refuse to sacrifice high quality PC gaming on a computer I built for shitty low quality console versions with shitty controls.

If linux could run battle field 3 and starcraft 2 on ultra settings, then maybe I'd be interested. Also, why do you want to trust your most personal information to strangers and ametures? Windows is stable if you're not a stupid shit about it. Vista was just clunky and buggy. 7 is stable as fuck. I've only been able to make it crash once, and that was while benchmarking an overclock during a torture test (3.4 - 4.4 ghz) and that was totally my fault because I wasn't being terrible cautious. And thought it was a good idea to take a screen cap. It was not a good idea.
