No joke. I think British food is shit, but that looks REALLY fucking good. I would eat the hell out of that.

A nice appetizer but what do you think the entree should be?

No wonder the Brits are all morbidly obese whales waddling around on rhino haunches.

It's a disgusting way to serve otherwise good peas. It's like pig slop.

Anonymous C replied with this 1 year ago, 1 minute later, 13 hours after the original post[^] [v] #1,287,951

@previous (A)

It's just pressure cooked peas with salt and sugar, why does it evoke such an emotional reaction?

Anonymous A (OP) replied with this 1 year ago, 1 minute later, 13 hours after the original post[^] [v] #1,287,954

@previous (C)
Because overcooked food is generally considered in bad taste. Also, sugar? With peas?

Anonymous C replied with this 1 year ago, 2 minutes later, 13 hours after the original post[^] [v] #1,287,956

@previous (A)

Mushy peas aren't overcooked, they're just cooked. A tablespoon per 5 litres of water is best, the same amount of salt.

Anonymous A (OP) replied with this 1 year ago, 12 minutes later, 14 hours after the original post[^] [v] #1,287,957

@previous (C)
I just prefer to enjoy the texture of food.

Anonymous C replied with this 1 year ago, 3 minutes later, 14 hours after the original post[^] [v] #1,287,958

@previous (A)

Mushy peas have a texture.

Anonymous A (OP) replied with this 1 year ago, 1 minute later, 14 hours after the original post[^] [v] #1,287,959

@previous (C)
They do. I just prefer a more natural texture. I cook vegetables, sure, but when they are overcooked (in my opinion), they lose some of the enjoyment. I've had mushy peas before. I am not "afraid" of them. I just prefer peas cooked other ways.

Anonymous C replied with this 1 year ago, 1 minute later, 14 hours after the original post[^] [v] #1,287,960

@previous (A)

I doubt that you have had authentic mushy peas prepared by an authentic English Fish and chip shop.

I have. I found them mushy and bland. I had them in London. It's just not my thing. You enjoy them if you do.

When I worked at the old folks home, once a month or so they'd serve "fish and chips" for lunch. But it was chips as we Americans refer to them, crisps for you brits. I always thought it was funny.

Mushy peas with a little salt is, by definition, bland. Why are you taking your stand for mushy peas? Geez. Some people don't like them.

If the batter is seasoned, a little spicy, and crispy fried to perfection, and you use some fine malted vinegar on it, it's divine. Fucking overcooked peas with one grain of salt? Fuck that.

I've worked in tons of US restaurants. The norm is real vinegar. I am sure the fake stuff exists, but no chef worth their coat would use it.

It tastes similar but is cheaper to manufacture and transport, and easier to store because it comes as concentrate.
