I've heard that the population growth that African populations can provide are not high enough to sustain population growth in all the population stagnated areas.
But I think that naturally, the poverty that population decline brings, will somehow increase the birthrates somehow.

I think that the post-war affluence and associated baby boom were anomalies in human history and although it will bring with it a decline in living standards and economic growth, population decline represents a settling down to the natural way of things.

I believe that's true. Population growth in Africa started to decrease in the same decades that it has in the developed world, just less so.

The association with poverty isn't as strong as you might think. My thinking is that it may be environmental contaminants, which would also explain why Africa has been affected in the exact same time periods just less so. Also could explain why many African countries have decreased their birth rates despite no obvious changes in poverty. Some of these countries are as worse off as they ever were in terms of poverty, starvation.
People often point to oral contraceptives as being the common link. Turns out birth rates started declining several years before they were widely available. And, let's be real, they're *still* not available in much of Africa.

Agreed.
The second part of your sentence I don't agree with. The natural way of things is not population decline. Never has been. Especially in a state of wealth and material surplus that much of the world is today in. Populations grow until resources are exhausted. That's the natural evolutionary way.
