Topic: Evidence in court will be meaningless.

Anonymous A started this discussion 2 years ago #116,249

The court system already has a reputation for using pseudoscience like bite mark analysis and hand writing experts.

Any criminal syndicate will generate videos of patsies as standard procedure before anyone knows a crime has been comitted. Like most people, the jurors and judge will refuse to acknowledge how the technology has developed, they will insist they can tell the difference, or repeat "video generation is years away!". They will use ineffective "AI detection tools" like professors do now with gpt essays, few will grasp that anything a computer can be trained to detect will just as easily be something it can be prompted to avoid.

After enough people have been convicted, and later exonerated, and given some years for the public and legal professions to realize their mistake, they will stop allowing video evidence. At this point victims will be unable to get justice, even when cameras catch the incident in HD.

Makes little difference because judges already have a very wide latitude in evidentiary hearings and can easily throw a trial by preventing the defense from presenting evidence, especially if prosecutorial misconduct is at play. They can also wholesale prevent legal arguments from being made, further crippling the defense's case. Meanwhile there's never a shortage of police officers willing to take the stand and perjure up any story that the prosecution wants.

tldr you're naive. the criminal justice system has been nothing more than a circus for quite some time now.
