Do you mean you contributed to a tax deferred account? You don't need to loan the IRS money for free to do that. Even just half of your refund amount could have earned you over $3000 at 4.5% in a savings account for 6 months. You threw away money.

Understandable though, if you have some kind of uncontrollable addiction for buying useless consumer goods.
