We live in a world where everyone is interconnected through a tiny computer in their pockets or their bags. During the early days of the first home computers this concept would’ve been seen as science fiction. Now it’s science reality. I don’t think people really understand the big change that this invention had on society.

It's artificial and its never going to replace my wall-mounted candlestick-telephone.

Disagree. I don't own one and never will.

I think the smart phone pales in comparison to the internet itself in being world changing.

But the extreme interconnectedness of the world has been well in progress since the 1920s. I saw a video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bNm-LIAKADw) about a man stuck in a cave in the 20s that became a news sensation with up to the minute coverage across the US and further. Just like today where one news event can often blow up on the internet and get coverage at the exclusion of almost all else.

Even the styles were very global in the 20s. From the US, to Europe, to as far as Japan they had "flappers", or as they called them modern girls (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Modern_girl) in Japan. All the men wore the same style of suits and coats.

The 20s is just what I've read about. I'm sure that wasn't the real beginning either.

It certainly is amazing.

This ones from the 30s and not really a flapper style or related to any of this at all really. But it's a good picture.

Clara Bow. One of the first movie stars and sex symbols of America. She came to personify the Roaring Twenties, according to wikipedia. What a wild time.
