There are limits to what they can tap, and knowing they can buy data from private firms to circumvent laws on what they can collect themselves is important.

Not practically.

A lot worse has been documented in the past few years. Wake up.
Another one off the top of my head was an encryption software company I think in Germany (can't remember the name, but you can probably find it without much difficulty) that was later revealed to have been run by the US government for some number of years.
There was even a whole fraudulently run airline in Florida that was run by the CIA. That was back in the 80s iirc. May've been the FBI and not the CIA, but doesn't really matter.
I stopped looking into stuff like this a long time ago because there's just so much of it, it starts to feel pretty pointless after a while. But I end up stumbling across stuff like this anyway without even trying to seek it out, which ought to tell you how prevalent this type of thing is.
Western governments - this is by far not a problem with just the US sadly enough - are rotten to the core. Not to say that anywhere else in the world is unilaterally better, though.

Now he's complaining about government spying and pretending like it's news to him? What a fucking joke.

Hey listen, son, the stuff you're upset about has been happening for decades. Don't know what you were doing all the other news cycles it's come up, but glad you finally noticed this time

You made a complete ass of yourself and there's no going back now. go find another community because no one will ever take you seriously here again. here's a tip: do a better job of hiding what you truly are. as humans we have a natural instinct to shun sociopathic/psychopathic behavior. dont expect you'll be able to pull what you did here anywhere without the same thing happening again
