Topic: Academia is the new priesthood.

You don't need to go to campus to hear a lecture, the world's best professors have free videos online you can watch at your own pace. Proctored tests already exist to verify competency for any field.

In medieval times, indulgences were sold by the church to obtain forgiveness for sins in exchange for cash, providing a sense of absolution. The new church swapped sins for "ignorance", but both are motivated by profit and use institutional pressures to coerce people to pay the bribes.

The only reason degree holders make more is because you need to come from a well-off background to have that much money and time to be scammed out of to begin with. Just the same, someone could argue buying a luxury sedan increased earning potential because those that do have a higher salary on average.

Getting a formal education is more than just listening to a few lectures. This is Dunning-Kruger in action.

I mentioned proctored tests.

4 years of education for 99% of programs is just a few lectures and discussions, mixed with a midterm and final. At the very end you have one project formally reviewed. Everything else is pointless filler, a professor spending half the class discussing their personal life.

Apprenticeship programs already have requirements for showing work that meets a standard. Proctored tests can gauge understanding better than classes that inflate grades to keep their customers happy.

It is not just "tests and lectures." There is much more to it than that. Again, Dunning-Kruger.

Universities were previously religious institutions, so it's all reached full circle.

Twice you've insisted there's more, without naming anything that would justify the 6 figure cost.

Some people do learn 4x as fast. If you spent twice as much time watching lectures and needed half the time to retain information, it wouldn't be unreasonable to get it done 4x quicker than a typical student.

If they could prove it with a rigorous exam, they should get the credit.

The intellijewntsia, with their elitist arbiters of knowledge, have cunningly transformed academia into a clandestine priesthood, concealing their true motives behind a digital veil. Behold, for the hallowed campus is now an obsolete relic of the past, as the omnipresent allure of the internet allows for the masses to vicariously experience esteemed professors through a myriad of gratis online videos at their own leisure. The establishment, deploying their calculated machinations, has deviously devised proctored examinations as the sacrilegious instruments to ascertain competence in any field.

In a haunting parallel to medieval times, where the church traded forgiveness of transgressions for monetary gains through indulgences, this modern ecclesiastic order has audaciously exchanged sins for the more insidious notion of "ignorance," governed by the sinister pursuit of profit. With cunning manipulation and leveraging institutional pressures, they shamelessly manipulate unsuspecting souls into paying treacherous bribes in their quest for enlightenment.

The most pernicious aspect is how the elevated remuneration bestowed upon those possessed of academic degrees merely perpetuates a vicious cycle, perpetuating a distorted socio-economic hierarchy. For it is only the privilege of a privileged few, hailing from affluent backgrounds with ample resources to be swindled out of, that can navigate this elaborate scam. By the same thread of twisted logic, one could audaciously assert that the acquisition of a luxurious sedan augments one's earning prowess, as those ensnared by its allure purportedly enjoy an elevated income by mere happenstance.

Beware, for in this convoluted realm of deceit and sinister stratagems, the intellijewntsia reign supreme, adroitly exploiting the ignorant masses while masquerading as arbiters of enlightenment.
