He didn't steal the footer, IIRC he used the database class and then removed the TinyBBS link from the footer. He later added it back and everyone got along.
I haven't really used Tinychan since the exodus™ of 2010 that brought us all here, so I have no idea what's going on over there nowadays and have no interest in discovering. The 2009 days and tiny.4chan.org were good fun though. I only had a brief glimpse of the very early days.

He also hates his users which is a very very awful trait for a mod or admin. He has killed TinyChan. @previous (tteh !MemesToDNA)
you aren't missing anything. I wasn't there for 2009 or 2010 but I'm told it was an active and interesting place. Now it's pedoshit. FuckAlms himself is a pedophile

@previous (A) > I wasn't there for 2009 or 2010 but I'm told it was an active and interesting place.
It was. It had a lot of interesting characters and was very active in its heyday.
All of the *chans are dying a slow death. I don't particularly care for Tinychan, but TC and MC are the only two extant TinyBBS/MiniBBS boards left, out of the twenty or so that have come and gone over the years. I hope they keep limping along for a good while yet.
(The only place ATBBS is still running is http://atbbs.lostsig.co and it's broken and abandoned but inexplicably still up, 10+ years after we stopped using Lost Signal hosting (remember SeanieB?!)).

I would prefer if TC died! Archive it and let it die already. Every good poster comes here eventually. TC is shitposts, pedo apologists and spam from social rejects and posters indistinguishable from bots
Half the people on TC are only there because they got the banhammer from this place anyway 😉
> He later added it back and everyone got along.
Not really. After r04r made a complete ass of herself in such an ironic way (think about the larger context here for one second lmao), few took her seriously. I guess you could call that getting along. But only in the sense that people got that she's kinda retarded and shouldn't be taken seriously.

It won't be long before bumps are months old and fewer and fewer people will care to "join in". But considering how absurdly cheap TinyBBS is to run (you could get by just fine with a $5/month VPS) and how little "maintenance" is ever required, there's no reason to think it won't be kept running.

did you ever fix the minichan software or is it still reliant on ancient dependencies that aren't compatible with modern operating systems / no longer exist on the public internet?

It still has some old dependencies, but none of real consequence anymore (meaning: it's at least secure). It's still not straightforward to set up unless you know what you're doing. I embarked on a complete rewrite at one point but realised literally nobody would notice/care, and I'd much rather do work that will pay me.
The idea of a forum that automatically makes every visitor an account is probably retarded anyway on today's Internet, let's be honest.
Neither Minichan nor Tinychan make their source available anymore.
> > TC now has bumps that are two weeks old on the front page!! > > Who'd have thought driving away everyone who isn't a raging pedophile would lead to a dead board? Knows how to run a railway does Fuckalms!
They didn't drive away everyone who isn't a raging pedophile. Just you. Now go put some ointment on your butthurt. LOL

I was trying to encourage squeegee to start a board a while back. We need more reactive/unstable/autistic people running boards. Otherwise the drama that is the lifeblood of the community dries up. Kind of like what Thomas Jefferson said about needing the spilling of blood every so often to keep things fresh. Also reminds me of an inspiring quote by Teddy Roosevelt.
I never looked at the source code of these boards, but if it's such a struggle to setup, I can't understand why anyone would bother with MiniBBS to begin with since I've seen many people complain that it was poorly written from the beginning. Coding something from scratch I don't think should take more than 2 weekends. Maybe a little longer to get all the bugs and quirks ironed out, but I can't imagine it taking all that much work to get something running from scratch. The stylesheets and design are already made. Stopforumspam blacklist plus a captcha, and you're set. I'd imagine it'd take just as much time fucking around trying to get MiniBBS running and be more enjoyable anyway than working with poorly written code.
What would be most useful is colorised names for the "Anonymous A", B, C, labels like GHOUL had. It makes it a lot easier to follow conversations, like syntax highlighting is for code.

I could do that and make it a toggleable setting. What was coloured, just the name? Did that not become a mess in enormous threads?

No it was incredibly helpful because you couldn’t enter a thread as anon and then just change your name to avoid detection. So your color was your marker not your name.

I think it was just the name. I think that'd look best anyway. I don't remember it becoming a mess. It probably just cycled the colors once they ran out from the manually set list. None of the colors were hard to read or too jarring to look at.
I personally think the names should not be colored when posting with a name. I think that's a quirk of the board people have used sometimes intentionally to obscure who they are and I think it's best to preserve that and not do things retroactively to reveal even partial identities. Maybe going forward you could colorize even named posters, but not retroactively.

@1,276,480 (Father Dave !RsSxeehGwc) > driving away everyone who isn't a raging pedophile
Thank you for admitting that either:
- you are a "raging pedophile", because you are still active on the board.
or:
- you have been driven off the board (and are extremely arse-sore about it).

You picked the first one. So you admit that you are a "raging pedophile".
OK, thanks, that'll be all.

Yes, that's it. Thank you for admitting it again.

So, again, that wasn't "all"? Okay.

Come to think of it, r04r and I helped a Spanish guy who came to IRC with some issues getting set up, in maybe 2016 ish. I wonder if he's running something nowadays.

Domingochan opened in the first months of 2021. Chan.mx very recently.
@1,276,968 (L) > In what timezone? Are they trying to kill activity?
Spanish-speaking world. The title of the site translates to "sundaychan," signifying that Domingochan is only open on Sundays. The admin recently mentioned the potential opening of an English version of the site (sundaychan.org), but nothing has materialized yet.
