I said "at least 1950", not "it originated precisely in 1950".
Do you have any pictures of a modern looking one from 1930? Wikipedia starts with monks and robes, and all that crap, but it's a bit of stretch, I think to call those hoodies. I'm wondering if the same could be said for the claim about the 30s.

It doesn't look completely modern in my opinion. Specifically the front pocket that is two compartments and not one and the lack of a draw string or even a hood. It's close but not quite there. Kind of like Steamboat willie compared to modern Mickey Mouse.
