It's pretty unfortunate that he has cancer now.
I met him briefly once several years ago by chance. I was getting off the train and saw him get off a car several places in front of me. So I walked up to him and asked, "hey, are you Richard Stallman?" He said yes. I'm not sure what I said after that but I remember the whole exchange being a bit awkward. He then asked if I was a member of the FSF, which I said no. Then he said something like, well you should be. And I was like "okay". And that was the end of the conversation. He didn't seem all that interested in talking with me further, although he didn't seem especially irritated, at least not any more so than he always seems to be in the videos I've watched of him talking to people. So we just kind of drifted a part in the crowd. Or maybe he walked more quickly ahead of me haha. I don't remember. Not really sure what I was expecting tbh.
