I was stroking my ego by thinking about being the best like no one ever was, at work.... Then I felt this turning, what if instead of the best worker, I'd become not something that is the best, but instead something like a good colleague.

Yeah it does seem to be the case sometimes, besides, there's even people who resent it because they always want that overtime pay.
