Coke Zero and Diet Coke taste forgettably different. I can tell the difference when having them side by side but on any random day I wouldn't be able to tell you which if you gave me one at random.
Coke Zero was made exclusively for insecure men who were uncomfortable drinking a diet drink. Seriously. The company even said this.
Sprite Zero, though, tastes just like Sprite. Unlike the diet cokes, it seems like they weren't trying to put a new spin on it, which I appreciate.

Diet Coke and Coke Zero are two attempts to do the same thing - create a zero sugar version of coca cola.
The relatively primitive nature of food science when diet Coke was released meant that it had a different flavor to regular coke. This was remedied by coke zero: advances have enabled the company to create a drink that has the same taste as original coke.
However, it's been so long that there have developed a group of people who prefer the taste of diet coke and would be unwilling to switch. This is why they still produce diet coke.
