What do you use for backups? I use Backblaze (B2). I mostly prefer local backups though, to various HDDs (but some are slowly dying now; they're ancient). I've been think about using Tahoe-LAFS.

What's the point?
I've never heard of Tahoe-LAFS. What are the advantages?
I inherited a server that was RAIDed a few years back and had a hard drive fail. Or something went wrong. I don't know what. But I assume it was a hard drive failure. Anyway, it turned out to be such a pain in the ass to get the damn thing booted or even mounted again that I ended up abandoning the data. It wasn't completely invaluable data, but it would've been useful for me to have had it on hand, just not enough so that I was willing to spend an unknown number hours troubleshooting obscure esoteric errors.
So since then, I just keep it simple and rsync everything important to a local encrypted USB HDD. I keep it unplugged when it's not being updated. I have a second equal sized USB HDD that I keep at a family member's house and swap the drives every few months in case my place burns down or something I'm losing no more than a month or two of data. Also helps make sure both drives remain functional. Kind of like rotating the tires on a car. Most of the stuff I care about keeping are things like family photos, random datasets, random pdfs that I don't update or add too all that frequently so not having everything instantly sync to a remote server is fine enough for me.
For code and frequently updated text files that I don't care are seen by big brother, I use private git bitbucket.org repositories. For notes and stuff I do care about privacy for, I use "pass" which encrypts with a private key, and I push the results to another private git repository. Not that I have anything remotely interested to encrypt (like a log of when I water my houseplants lol), but, if it's easy to encrypt, why not?
