While they are currently focusing on Project Rene, which is rumored to be The Sims 5, there are now, for the first time in the history of the genre, several alternative games promising to be even better than the previous Sims franchise. One such game is Paralives and possibly the first known of this new line of games. Paradox, developers of popular games such as Crusader Kings and Cities Skylines, is currently working on Life By You. There is also independent developers who have created a game that feels complete even in early access. This game is Tiny Life. Most recently a South Korean studio announced a photorealistic life simulation game called INZOI.

This is the first time ever that The Sims might officially die.
