Then do it. Or at least tell me how you would accomplish it. You won't be able to use any proper existing rendering system because you don't want to render anything that's covered and you have to draw realistic lightning and all your terrain can change. That is VERY important. Every small block is a separate object which cast their own shadows and all that shit. Other better looking games? They all consist of way less separate details. Most of those games start to lag and crap out if you spawn a bit more things than they give you in the level (Which isn't a lot).

Anyway, you're just butthurt because you couldn't get anyone believe your IQ was 182 and that you were better than Mensa.

It looks pretty great with some texture packs. The game's in beta, I'm not surprised if it'll end up with another graphics overhaul near actual release date.

> >Other better looking games? They all consist of way less separate details

In a modelling program you can create a big building exterior and export it as one object in the game world. That's easy, and low resource intensive. With minecraft that same building would consist of a LOT of small blocks which all take their own space (Each one has an X/Y/Z+other info, and that's before they have to enter the graphics buffer) as opposed to just one time X/Y/Z+other info for the bigger model.

As for the actual ram usage, minecraft uses about 1.3GB currently for the client? It's pretty much a full blown game now... Most games I have installed require 2GB+ ram. Your argument is invalid.

edit:Oh shit, TL;DR. Sorry, uh... Anon E is wrong. k, bai.

I like how people talk about the game like it's already finished and isn't still beta. I will take Anonymous E's complaints more seriously once the game is released and all of the real problems are apparent. It's like arguing over the color of ugly exposed girders on an uncompleted skyscraper and calling the architect an idiot because it doesn't have carpet or wallboard yet.

Also, I would take E more seriously if he wasn't comparing it with the capabilities of DOOM and other early software and equipment. I remember running wolfenstein 3D on a 386 and how rendering a single room with a few sprites was a great accomplishment. Also, lolframerate. Doom was a huge improvement and ran exceptionally well on a 486dx2 66mhz with 8 (or was it 16, lol) megs of ram, but it really pushed the computer hard. Especially when playing multiplayer on a LAN, even with state of the art gaming rigs (at the time, lol) we had issues with lag. Sure, the graphics are similarly pixilated, but that doesn't mean they are the same.

Look at Grand theft Auto vs. Red Dead Redemption vs. LA NOIR. (all made recently and by Rockstar.) Each game has vastly different sized worlds, Red Dead Redemption easily being the biggest, but also sparsely populated and rendered mostly as wide sweeping vistas without much vertical height. They were able to use the extra resources to add detail to the horse animations (which look real as fuck) and character animations. Grand Theft Auto on the other hand had a smaller map, but taller, less detail in the animations, but more heavily populated. LA NOIR has the smallest map and little vertical height, but is heavily populated with characters and has a very new and very advanced animation engine and does some really sick shit with animation of faces. It really blew me away, but, gameplay was super linear and didn't have as much of a sandboxy feel as RDR and GTA.

Now my point in all this is that in order for Rockstar to use the different animation engines they had to make sacrifices in the way of map size and even gameplay. It's not that Rockstar took a step backwards by making maps smaller, or making a more linear game with limited capabilities, They had to compromise in order to achieve a different goal, enhanced graphics and animations. Minecraft makes similar compromises to make a destructible, rebuildable world. Look at games like Crysis, and the system requirements for Battlefield 3, both of which have tons of destructible objects in the world and beautiful graphics and physics. Sure, it can be done. But fuck you, not on a 386. Not even on most modern computers. Of course Minecraft can be refined, and eventually someone will write a similar, better game in a real programming language by a real software developer and they'll do it right. But I guarantee you won't see it run on any machine with less than 4gigs of ram and badass videocard.

Meanwhile people are fucking dieing and countless innocent bystanders are being killed as your crap-ass-piece of shit falls apart. It's really no different than drunk driving, really.

I would take mincraft more seriously if it didn't have a rendering engine worse than that of DOOM and even earlier software. And I used the 386 as an extreme example as what minecraft should be playable on, even if slow. There's absolutely no excuse for it to require several thousands of times more memory and processing capabilities. It's surreal even.

> Sure, the graphics are similarly pixilated, but that doesn't mean they are the same.
Yeah, the only difference is that you can place blocks. Not sure why that should require a quad core processor.

> Minecraft makes similar compromises to make a destructible, rebuildable world
No minecraft makes compromises first and almost exclusively to be written in java. With zero benefits.

I actually do have a 386 and it would be a fun little project to write something similar to minecraft. But I lack the time and it wouldn't be worth the effort anyways because there's little to no depth in minecraft.

No, it's rendering engine is far more complex than doom. Doom was really, really simple. If you want to make car comparisons then you're trying to compare a modern sedan to a model-T, and complaining that the modern sedan "does the same thing, but at a far greater cost."

No argument. Smartest thing you've said all thread.

> I actually do have a 386 and it would be a fun little project to write something similar to minecraft. But I lack the time and it wouldn't be worth the effort anyways because there's little to no depth in minecraft.

Boastful lying makes you sound like a retard. "I can do it, but I'm not going to because it's stupid." Oh, okay. Try making a grown-up argument, child.

The most common sign of autism is the inability to detect context. A small, sarcastic joke in the midst of a conversation is not trolling.

Resorting to insults is a sure sign of stupidity. Prove me wrong.

Stating a fact does not equal making an insult. If you see it that way, perhaps you have some reflecting to do.

Your opinions are not fact. And by suggesting that autism is something to be insulted or ashamed of is an insult to all autistics. Reap what you sow, mother fucker. Reap what you sow.

Lol, you're the one who brought autism into this, you fucking retard. Your opinions are not fact either, and you spewed your opinions way before I did. You just don't like having inferior, and misinformed opinions. not my fault, bud.

typical mc drama

ks spazzes out because someone has a different opinion to him. calls him a retard and a troll

r04r resorts to threats of modabuse instead of rational reasoned debate

anon is way too angry about a subject no one cares about
